Hey Cuzn,
Let’s keep it real today. Running a candle business isn’t always as pretty as the finished product—it’s wax, wicks, and a whole lot of hustle. While I’m passionate about what I do, the journey has its ups and downs. Some months, everything is lit (pun intended). The candles are flying off the shelves, and I feel like I’m on top of the world. But then, there are those months where my business account is in the red, and I’m questioning every decision I’ve ever made.
Take last February, for example. Sales were slower than a Sunday afternoon nap. I’d invested in new inventory, marketing, and packaging, thinking I was gearing up for a big season. But instead, it was crickets. I remember staring at my shelf full of candles and wondering if I should just burn them myself to save on heating.
But here’s the thing: Perseverance is key. When sales dip, I get creative. I revisit my why—why I started this business, why I’m so passionate about creating products that spark joy and connection. I reconnect with my customers, share my story, and remind myself that every entrepreneur faces challenges. It’s all part of the process.
And then there are the highs—those moments that make everything worth it. Like when I launched my "Creating Boundaries" candle and heard from so many of you about how it’s become part of your self-care ritual. Or when a customer told me they gave one of my candles as a gift, and the recipient cried happy tears. Those are the moments that keep me going.
So, to anyone out there chasing a dream, know this: It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. Keep showing up for yourself, your passion, and your purpose. I’m rooting for you.
With love and light,
Nakia
